The Conch Shell: This conch symbolized the right to speak. It showed civilization. For example during the meetings whoever had something to say they would have to have the conch in there hands to speak so they could all listen to what everybody had to say. It also shows power. But at the end it losses its power because all the boys don't care about it. For example after the separate into two different groups. Ralph takes the shell to Jack's group to remind them who's leader. But that means nothing to them.

Signal Fire: The fire at the beginning of the book shows civilization. At the beginning they light it up so they could have hope that they will get rescued. But after it went out, the boys really stopped caring. Meaning that the boys have gotten used to the savaged life they are living on the island. But after Jack sets the island on fire. A ship finally comes by and rescues the boys.

Piggy's Glasses: The glasses represent to power of science. For example the first time they made fire they had the idea of using Piggy's glasses to use the lenses to make fire. It worked. But later when Jack's group took them to create fire, it left Ralph and Piggy with no help to actually get rescued.
