Chapter 5: Beast from Water
Predictions: 1) Someone else will go missing.
2) Jack will try to become chief.
3) They will soon get to see the beast.
Questions: 1)Why Ralph still talking about the fire still?
2) Why won’t the boys be able to make another fire rather than just making it on the top of the mountain?
3) Why were they talking about ghost?
Connections: 1)Everyone has a fear. And my fears are snakes, mice, rats, and sharks.
2) I have had nightmares as a little kid. I remember one night I was so terrified I woke up screaming and crying.
Clarifications: I kind of understand this chapter because Ralph is still talking about the fire which I understand because he wants to be rescued and doesn’t want to miss an opportunity on if a ship comes by so that they can rescue them. And also on the beast. I understand that they still don’t believe in it but I just think that they're just trying to deny it so that they won’t get scared because they are the older kids and don’t wanna seem weak to the little ones.
Summary: They now have four shelters. Ralph calls a meeting and starts talking and then gets back to the subject of the fire and how they almost burnt the whole island. He then stated that they were going to be having a rule that they won’t have a fire anywhere but on the mountain. The last thing he wanted to talk about was the Beast. After Ralph sat down Jack grabbed the conch and started telling the little kids that its not real and that the fear they get is from the dreams they have at night. Then this little kid tells them that he had a nightmare of things in the tree and when he woke up he got up and saw something moving. Simon then says that he had gone to a place in the jungle at night and Ralph told him not to do that. They stayed on the topic of the beast for awhile, then they started saying that the beast was from the sea. And from that they went to talking about ghost.
