Chapter Three
Predictions: 1) Robert will take a while to heal from his injure.
2) Mr. Tanner will give Robert a gift.
3) Even though Robert is injured, he has to help out.
Questions: 1) Why do they make a fence between their farms and Mr.Tanner's?
2) Why does Mr.Tanner give Robert a pig instead of money?
3) Why can't you put pigs and cows together, but have a barrier blocking them from each other?
Clarifications: I understand this chapter because it's showing how Mr.Tanner is grateful for Robert helping out that he gives him a pig. And also how both families respect their properties.
Connections: 1) I have gotten a gift from my aunt for helping her paint her house about two years ago, instead of money.
2) I always help out my neighbors.
Summary: Robert and his father go and make a fence between the Tanner farm and their own. Robert doesn't understand why there putting up a fence if there both friends. But then his dad tells him that, he and Mr.Tanner want a fence between their property. Haven also tells Robert that, "A fence sets men together not apart." basically saying that they are showing respect for each others property. Then Mr.Tanner comes over with Apron and not just one but two calf's, which he named one calf after Robert. Mr.Tanner then hands Robert a pig for helping out Apron give birth. But then Mr.Tanner offers the pig as an early payment. Robert names the pig, Pinky. Robert wants to put Pinky in with the cow but his dad tells him no because it can spoil the cows milk. And that pigs are meat eaters.
