Chapter Thirteen
Predictions: 1) Mom and Aunt Carrie will soon find out that Haven is sick.
2) Haven will start to get sicker.
3) Robert will soon have to grow up and be a man.
Questions: 1) Why don't Robert and Mr.Tanner wait til Pinky is a bit bigger so she can breed?
2) Why does Mr.Tanner keep asking about Haven's health?
Clarifications: This chapter basically clarified that they really want Pinky to breed. And that with all the pigs she has that means more money for the Peck family. Which means paying off the farm quicker.
Connections: 1) My grandma had pigs in Mexico, they would always try to breed the female but it never worked.
Summary: October passes and now they are currently in November. Robert is talking to Mr.Tanner if he thinks that Pinky is barren, and Mr.Tanner tells him that he will take a look tomorrow. He comes over and Mr.Tanner brings his boar Samson. Which he's really huge weighing almost 400 to 500 pounds. They put him in with Pinky and he pushes her while trying to smell her. Pinky is doing anything to get away from him. Mr.Tanner then starts asking Robert about Haven's health and Robert doesn't look at him while saying that he is well. Then Miss.Sarah comes out of the barn with her three cats, Robert was glad so that could distract Mr.Tanner of asking more questions about Haven. They soon realize that Samson is breeding Pinky she is trying so hard to get away from him but can't because Samson is to huge and is all over her. She is squealing so much and even when he was done she still kept doing it. Robert then notices that she is bleeding and he tried to go and clean her up but Mr.Tanner pulls him out because Samson could attack him.
