Chapter Eleven
Predictions: 1) Aunt Carrie will be upset that Robert spent his 10 cents on soap for Pinky>
2) Haven and mom will find out that Aunt Carrie gave Robert money and be really mad at both of them.
3) The family will be proud Pinky won something.
Questions: 1) Why didn't Mr.Tanner sell the calf for the $500?
2) How come Robert didn't tell Aunt Carrie about how he spent the money when he went to hug her?
3) Why did they kill the dog instead of actually helping it out?
Clarifications: This chapter makes scene to me because it showed me that they Peck family would rather kill something to put it out of it's misery instead of actually doing something to help it out. But I don't understand why they put them in a barrel instead a a more bigger space. They all knew that the dog and the weasel were going to die or get injured very bad.
Connections: 1) When I came back from Florida I was so excited to tell my parents about it, I never shut up.
2) I had gotten two baby turtles and I left them outside in a tube with water. And my dog went outside and awhile later when I went to check on the turtles I noticed that they were gone. Later that day I realized that they were killed by my dog.
Summary: Robert came home so excited about the Fair and how Pinky had won a blue ribbon. The family sat around eating pie and listening to Robert go on about his Fair experience. Even though it was after bed time he still kept going on. His mom then told him that he had to go to bed because he had to do chorus the next morning. During the night, there was a noise outside in the hen coop. Robert heard the hens cackle and scold. He also saw a lit lantern but then it turned quite, he tried to wake up but he never did. The next morning while doing his chorus Robert went to Haven and Haven told him that he had caught a weasel. Robert went off talking about how he meet Ira and that he had a dog. Haven then told Robert that he would meet them at the trackroom so they could weasel the dog. They arrived and they started to say that they weasel a dog so the dog can track it to its hole, dig it out, and tear it up. If you have a hen house you need a good weasel dog. They put the weasel and dog into a barrel and shut the lid. They all had to hold on to it so it wouldn't open. After the barrel stopped moving Robert open the lid a little then took it off they saw the the weasel was dead and was all torn apart. They also noticed that the dog was almost missing her ear. They saw how bad she was hurt and Robert said that they should kill her. Ira was not happy about that. Haven then went to get his gun and shoot the dog.
