Chapter 2: Fire on the Mountain
Predictions: 1) That some of the boys will be dying from hunger.
2) Jack will try to be the chief.
3) Piggy will soon become skinnier.
Questions: 1)Why didn’t they believe the little kid when he was talking about the snake?
2) Why didn’t they build shelter instead of the fire?
3) How come they were all getting mad at Piggy?
Connections:1) I have made fire before. But for a bonfire.
2) I have seen a snake before. I really got scared because I hate them and I am terrified of them.
Clarifications: I get this chapter just a little because it is starting to explain itself a bit more. And its showing how Ralph and Jack are the ones to take charge and to get the little kid in order.
Summary: Ralph blows into the conch to get the other boys attention. He then tells them that they are on an Island with water surrounding them. No boats, people, houses, smoke and footprints. They also are talking about having a lot of rules. And if they break them they will be in trouble. Then a little boy tells Ralph that he has seen a beastie, snake-thing, but now one believed him. The little boy also said that in the morning it turns into ropes in the trees and hang in the branches. But still nobody believed him. Jakes starts saying that in the meantime they should have fun but at the same time try to get themselves rescued. And if a ship comes they could have to make fire so that they can see them. All the boys went to go look for wood. And after that Ralph told Jack if he wanted to light the fire. But he had no matches and then they say Piggy coming and asked him if he had any matches but he said no and then they say his glasses and used them to get the fire started. Later after the fire was made Piggy gets annoyed and he had the conch and no one was listening to him and he just started to get mad and telling them that Ralph is the chief and they can’t even let him explain the whole idea. And that they should have used the wood to build shelter near the beach where it was a bit warmer. They started arguing about Piggy not taking all of the kids names then suddenly they realized that the kid with the birthmark on half of his face was missing and they couldn’t find him.
