Chapter Nine
Predictions: 1) Haven is going to be really upset with Mr.Hillman.
2) Robert will try to understand better what was really going on.
3) Robert will get in trouble with Haven, for talking to Mr.Hillman.
Questions: 1) Why do they gossip so much?
2) Who is Widow Bascom?
3) How come Haven can't take Robert to Rutland?
Clarifications: This chapter is a 50, 50 because I do understand half of it and don't get the other half of it. The part that I don't understand is the beginning. Widow just came out of nowhere, I guess it's because they were just gossiping. And the part I do get is when Haven tells Robert that he can't take him to Rutland and that Mr.Tanner had offered to take him. I understand it because this part does have to do more with the book.
Connections: 1) I have had to go to a fair with my aunts before because my parents were busy. But it was more fun then being with my parents.
2) I have helped my mom with her flowers before but they weren't heavy because the pot was plastic.
3) I got in trouble with a neighbor before because I had gone into their yard because my soccer ball went over their fence.
Summary: While Robert was taking Pinky a bath he had heared his mom and Aunt Carrie talking about something. He was not quite sure what was going on. All he could hear was them talking about Widow Bascom and how she has gottan herself a hired man. And how it's only been two or three years since Vernal Bascom had passed away. Robert just remembered that he ran into her. The first time he was with Jacob Henry running through Widow's strawberries ans she had come out with a steel broom and beat them with it. And the second time he saw her she had asked him for help to move some flower pots. There he had meet Ira Long, Widow Bascom's hired man. He heads home and Haven tells him how he will be going to Rutland with Mr.Tanner to help out with the calf's. And all he had to do was listen to Mr.Tanner's orders.
