Chapter Eight and Nine
Predictions: At the end of it all only a little hundred people out off a hundred thousand will survive this terrible journey.
Clarifications: At the end of it all Elie's dad is to weak to go on and is killed in the crematory. Then after a couple of days the Nazis gave up and let the rest of the Jews free but before that Elie had gotten food poisoning and was very close to death.
Questions: Why couldn't they just let them free when they arrived at Buchenwald?
Why did Elie keep on feeding his father even though he knew he was going to die?

Summary:On the way to Buchenwald it had weaken Elie's father. When they arrive he just sits on the snow, basically giving up and just wanting to die. Elie tried to help him move, but he didn't and couldn't. Then they had to go into the barracks, Elie left his dad and fell asleep. In the morning he beings to look for his father, he finds him but he's really sick and can't move. Elie brings him food and coffee but at the same time he would rather eat it himself because he knows he has a better chance of living then his father and wants to strength to keep going. His father has dysentery, which means that he is really thirsty but he can't give him water. Elie tries to find a doctor to help his father but the doctor tells him that there is nothing he can do. After a week at the head of the block one of the SS beats Elie's father because he kept yelling for water and the next day Elie has found out that his father is taken to the crematory. He didn't cry he just felt relief. On April 6 the American army came and the Nazis gave up and let the remaining Jews free. One April 10 about acouple thousands remained and the Nazis decided to evacuate them and kill them too. Elie get's food poisoning and is almost close to dying but then later that day, the American army arrives at Buchenwald and the prisoners are finally free.
