Chapter 4: Painted Faces and Long Hair
Predictions: 1) Time has passed by and they boys get older.
2) They will all soon start looking after themselves.
3) They will soon realize that the snake is real.
Questions: 1) How come Ralph isn’t happy that Jack got a pig?
2) Why did Jack push Piggy down?
Connections: 1) I recently got glasses and my brothers head was in the way and he bumped into me and hit my glasses and broke them. I was so mad because I couldn’t see far distance.
2) I have watched a pig get killed. It was very disgusting.
Clarifications: I got a little lost at the beginning of the chapter. And then hitting the end I started to understand a bit more. For example on how Ralph was just getting a bit more frustrated because all he wants to do is go home.
Summary: The little kids were known now as “littluns” because they were so short. They boys got used to the stomach aches and a sort of chronic diarrhoea. They were all pretty brown and quite dirty. As time passes they boys start to get long hair. Piggy on the other hand seems to not be getting long hair. While some were in the water Ralph out of nowhere shouts that there is fire. And everyone that was in the water gets out. Piggy and Simon come to Ralph and ask him where it is and if there was a ship. The only thing Ralph really said that the fire was at the top of the mountain. Soon the fire went out. Jack had finally killed a pig and he was very excited. Ralph was mad because Jack had let the fire go out just to go hunt a pig and that there came a boat and ruined there change to be rescued. Piggy then got involved and started saying things and Jack just had enough and punched him in the stomach and Piggy’s glasses fell and broke. So know he could see only through one lens. They began to make another fire so they could eat the pig. They roasted it and ate it. Ralph then asked Jack how he got the pig. He explains. At the end Ralph calls a meeting.
