Chapter 7: Shadows and Tall Trees
Predictions: 1) They will find out that military people came.
2) Ralph will be very mad at Sam and Eric.
Questions: 1)Why did Simon just go back at night by himself?
2) Why does Ralph keep thinking that they will never get rescued?
Connections: 1)I have felt block out sometimes.
2) I tried to chase one of my grandmas pigs as a little kid but it was not a success.
Clarifications: I somewhat get this chapter because it at the beginning of the chapter it shows that Ralph thinks that they won’t be rescued and they will be stuck on the island forever. And at the end I don’t understand if the boys climbed the mountain and heard something why would they climb all the way back.
Summary: Ralph looks out into the ocean making him feel like it is a wall blocking the island from everything else. So Simon tries to comfort him by saying that they will go back home. That same day, the boys find pig droppings and decide to hunt for a pig while searching for the beast. Ralph has never hunted before so when he saw the boar he immediately threw this spear at it but it didn’t go through. But the pig escaped. Simon tells the boys that he will go back and tell Piggy and the little ones that they will not be returning tonight. Ralph decides to wait til morning to climb the mountain because it was too dangerous to hunt for a beast at night. Jack then challenges Ralph to go up and he does. Ralph, Jack and Robert climb the mountain. Once on top of the mountain they boys hear a flapping sound so they climb down to tell the rest of the group.
